Black is the colour of my true love's hair....
From DWM #437
Catrin Stewart told us the two of you had a chat about Vastra’s relationship with Jenny. What sort of things did you talk about?
“We were just kind of discussion how we’d met, how we bonded together, a few ideas to make up our history. I think that comes across, that maybe there was the thing of Vastra saved Jenny from the streets, and Jenny saved Vastra from herself, That’s where the love between them comes from, from a mutual respect. It’s very difficult, because Doctor Who is essentially for children so we didn’t want it to be too sexual, but it’s about a really good friendship.”
A lot of people want to see more of Vastra and Jenny. Have you seen any of the viewers’ reactions?
“Well I’m started to get through some fan mail just now, but I already had from being in Doctor Who before. But I’ve gone on the internet to have a little look at what people are saying, and it has gone…it’s extraordinary. There’s a website set up now, it’s called Grimlight, and people are writing whole stories, and pictures… the amount of imagination, it’s wonderful! I’ve never been on Twitter, but I’m now tempted to go on, because I’d love to have a chat about it! The internet is an extraordinary medium, I love it.”
Do you have any idea why people loved Vastra and Jenny so much?
“I don’t, actually. Cos I loved Dan, who plays Commander Strax. I thought he was brilliant, with all that ‘I’m going to heal you and help you, then I shall kill you in battle’, you know? Really funny. Yeah, I don’t know actually. Maybe just swords!”
